How bishops move
HOME PAGE

Bishops cannot cross a square occupied by another chessman.

Bishops move diagonally.

The bishop on a black square always stays on black squares until it is captured or the game ends. The bishop on a white square always stays on white squares until it is captured or the game ends.

When a bishop is obtained by promoting a pawn, the bishop will stay on the same color squares as the square on which the pawn was promoted.

WHITE

The black bishop can move to any square indicated by an asterisk. The white king is in check, so White must either move the king or move the rook into the way (f6). In either case, the bishop will be able to capture the rook on the next move.
