HOME PAGE The knight can jump over other chessmen. The knight moves one square directly forward, backward, left or right and then, still moving away from the square of departure, one square diagonally.
WHITE The knight above can move to any square indicated by an asterisk. Note that a knight on a white square moves to a black square, and a knight on a black square moves to a white square. BLACK
White has advanced a pawn to c3 to threaten the black knight, but the knight can move to the square shown by an asterisk, thereby putting the king in check while attacking the rook. This double threat is called a fork. After the white king moves, the black knight can capture the valuable white rook. |
